Terms of Use
Effective 12 October 2026
These terms apply to your use of the Honeycomb Notes app, this website and the optional paid sync service (together, the “Service”). The Service is provided by Busy Bee Software, a sole trader in South Australia (“we”, “us”). Contact: honeycombsupport@busybeesoftware.com.au. By installing or using the app, or by creating a sync account, you agree to these terms and to our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the Service.
1. The app
The Honeycomb Notes app is free to download and use, on your own devices, for personal or business purposes. We give you a non-exclusive, non-transferable licence to install and use it. You must not copy, resell or redistribute the app, or attempt to reverse engineer it, except where the law allows you to despite this restriction.
Anyone of any age may use the app on their own computer. A sync account requires you to be at least 16 years old.
2. Your notes
Your notes are yours. We claim no rights in them. The app stores them as ordinary files on your own computer, and you are responsible for keeping your own backups of anything important. Sync is not a backup service: it keeps copies of your vault in step across your devices, and a deletion on one device is synced to the others (deleted notes go to the app’s trash).
3. Sync accounts
- You must give a valid email address that you control, and keep your password and recovery key safe. You are responsible for activity on your account.
- Your notes are encrypted on your device. We cannot read them and we cannot reset your password or recover your cloud data. If you lose both your password and your recovery key, your cloud copy cannot be recovered.
- You must not misuse the service. For example, you must not try to break or overload it, access another person’s account, evade its limits (such as by creating repeated accounts to get repeated trials), or use it in a way that breaks the law. We may suspend or close an account that does.
- Limits apply: 2 GB of storage per account for subscribers (100 MB during the free trial), and a maximum file size of 32 MB.
4. Free trial
A new sync account gets a 7-day free trial that starts when you first verify your email address. You do not need to give payment details to start it. When the trial ends, you need a subscription to keep uploading changes (see section 7).
5. Subscription and payment
- The sync subscription costs A$4 per month, plus GST where it applies. It is billed monthly in advance and renews automatically until you cancel.
- Payment is handled by Stripe as the seller of record. Stripe’s terms apply to the payment, and the charge may appear on your statement under Stripe’s or Link’s name rather than ours.
- We may change the price. We will tell you by email at least 30 days before a new price applies to you, and you can cancel before then.
6. Cancelling and refunds
- You can cancel at any time using “Manage billing” in the app. You keep sync access until the end of the period you have already paid for, and you are not charged again.
- If you delete your account, your subscription is cancelled immediately and the remaining paid time is lost.
- We do not give refunds or credits for unused time or for part-periods.
- Nothing in these terms limits any rights you have under the Australian Consumer Law or other laws that cannot be excluded. If you have a problem with the Service, please contact us.
7. If your subscription ends
If your trial or subscription ends and you do not renew, then from the day it ended:
- for 30 days your cloud copy is read-only: you can still download changes to your devices but cannot upload new ones;
- from day 30 to day 90 your cloud copy is locked but kept, and resubscribing restores it instantly;
- at day 90 your cloud data is permanently deleted.
We email you at the start and before each stage. Your notes on your own devices are never affected. You can download a copy of your account details, and delete your account, at any time from inside the app.
8. Availability and changes
We aim to keep sync reliable but we cannot promise it will always be available or error-free. We may update, change or retire parts of the Service. If we ever end the paid sync service, we will give you reasonable notice and the chance to download your data, and the app will keep working on your computer without it.
9. Our responsibility to you
Our goods and services come with guarantees that cannot be excluded under the Australian Consumer Law. Subject to that, and to the extent the law allows:
- the free app is provided “as is”, without warranties of any kind;
- we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, or for loss of data, profit or opportunity; and
- where we are liable for the paid sync service, our liability is limited, at our choice, to resupplying the service or to the amount you paid us for it in the previous 12 months.
Because your notes are kept on your own devices, and you can keep your own backups, we strongly encourage you to do so.
10. Ending your use
You can stop using the Service at any time. We may suspend or close a sync account that seriously or repeatedly breaks these terms, giving you notice where it is reasonable to do so. Sections that by their nature should continue (for example sections 6 and 9) continue after the Service ends.
11. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms. We will post the new version here with a new effective date, and tell sync account holders by email at least 14 days before a material change takes effect. If you keep using the Service after that date, you accept the new terms.
12. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of South Australia, Australia, and the courts of South Australia have non-exclusive jurisdiction over any dispute about them.
