Nothing is locked in. If you stop using Honeycomb Notes tomorrow, your notes are still ordinary files you can open anywhere.

Plain Markdown files

Every note is its own .md file in real folders on your disk. Open the same folder in Obsidian or any text editor.

Local first

Everything works offline and your notes stay on your computer. Sync is optional, and nothing is uploaded unless you turn it on.

Link notes together, see what links back to each one, and explore the connections as a graph.

Offline text recognition

Pull text out of images with built-in OCR that runs on your own computer. Nothing is sent anywhere.

Safe saving

Unchanged notes are never rewritten, so your folder stays friendly to git, backups and file sync tools.

Multiple vaults

Keep separate vaults for separate projects and switch between them in a click. Removing one from the list never touches its files.

Optional sync between your devices

Notes are encrypted on your device before they leave it. The sync service only ever stores scrambled data, so we cannot read your notes, and we cannot reset your password for you.

You stay in control

  • The app is free to download and use, with or without sync
  • If you stop paying, your notes stay on your devices, and you have time to download a copy of your cloud data
  • You can delete your account and all cloud data from inside the app
  • Payments are handled by Stripe, and we never see your card details

Windows says “Windows protected your PC”

Honeycomb Notes is a new app from a small independent developer, and the installer is not yet signed with a paid Windows certificate. Windows therefore shows this warning for any new, unsigned program. To continue:

  1. Click More info.
  2. Click Run anyway.

If you want to be sure the file is the one published here, compare its SHA-256 checksum with the one above. In PowerShell, run Get-FileHash "Honeycomb-Notes-setup.exe" in the folder you saved it to.
